Pedagogy for HOT
This is a great and unique seminar in the sense that participants will be exposed to three pedagogical approaches such as Problem Solving, Thinking-based learning (TBL) and Thinking Routines. With these approaches, teachers educators and researchers would be able to view teaching and learning in a broader perspectives with flexible application in almost all disciplines.
Mathematics for Students
We believe that student’s failure to understand mathematics is due to the fact that they do not have the knowledge of High-order thinking (HOT). HOT is a prerequisite in the learning of mathematics without which students merely learn mathematical procedures and it would not help much in their understanding of mathematics or engineering mathematics problems.
Learning Skill
This program helps participants to develop critical thinking, creative thinking, mathematical thinking and problem solving for real life and its application in learning strategies for primary to secondary school students. It includes exposure on basic of decision making and its relationships with problem solving. This is not only for students but also suitable for youths.
HOT for Teachers
Infusing Problem Solving and Thinking-based learning into Problem-based learning (PBL) or Project-based learning. To guide participants on how to develop HOT skills among learners through Critical Thinking (skills of analysis, reflection, evaluation and Metacognition) Creative Thinking (alternatives, possibilities, imagination) Mathematical thinking (specializing, generalizing, conjecture, counter-example inductive, deductive and analogic reasoning.
HOT in the Workplace
The course will put emphasis on the use of Higher-order thinking skills such as critical thinking and creative thinking in the workplace. HOT skills such as critical thinking was found to be important for effective team functioning .Research also found that developing HOT skills within individuals in the organizational teams will improve organizational performance.
